Maria and Kieran, a couple from Bristol, finally got to parachute out of an airplane on Monday 5th May. After a postponement in April, due to Maria's health, (she has MS), they were set to "drop" on Sunday. Unfortunately, after several people had jumped, the weather took a turn for the worse and the clouds closed in, making it unsafe, but the good news was, it would probably be ok for the next day.
They were jumping with the Silver Stars parachute team, based at the Duke of Gloucester Barracks, Cirencester, Glos, who made everyone feel at ease. As Maria is a wheelchair user, it was explained that she would be physically strapped to her instructor, (taped with duct tape and she didn't mind at all!) Finally, just after 2pm they took off and after dropping some other skydivers off at a lower altitude, they climbed to 10,000ft and jumped! They were both thrilled, although Kieran wasn't so keen when his diver did a loop! They landed first, shortly followed by Maria and her diver. Without doubt it was an experience they wouldn't have missed, and it raised money! As for us on the ground, it was great fun and a pleasure to watch an inspiring couple, showing that having MS doesn't stop you doing things! Maria and Kieran, thank you!! (What's next??) We'd also like to thank the Silver Stars team for looking after Maria and Kieran! Further information about the Silver Stars can be found at: www.silverstars.org.uk
